I think there are a number of reasons why QR codes haven’t caught on, but something that few people get into is the fact that they’re horribly ugly. I don’t think anyone wants to look at them. How could you integrate this cumbersome anti-technology into a slick advertising campaign? I’ve seen some examples of QR codes that have been pretty-ified, but then they become less recognizable to QR Code first timers.
Another issue is that I have to open my QR code app. If these take off, there’s going to have to be some way to just hold my phone up and have it work. But then why not just wait for NFC?
